Last night I got to meet Jonathan Groff for a photo op and autograph after seeing 'Deathtrap' so this night after 'Love Never Dies' it was 10:30pm and I thought why not meet the Phantom himself. Now the Adelphi Theatre is located mid-block in a row of buildings and one literally has go around the block around the buildings that sit on either side of the Adelphi to find the stage door.
It was here in 1993 after Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Sunset Boulevard' where I saw a play in London for the first time. I was much younger then but it still feels like it was yesterday as I waited at the stage door not for Patti Lupone but for Ramin Karimloo who is originating the role of the Phantom in 'Love Never Dies'.
Karimloo previously portrayed the title role in 'The Phantom of the Opera' at Her Majesty's Theatre in London and it was here that Lloyd Webber found the Phantom for the sequel. Also in 2007, he made headlines in the theatre world as the youngest actor at 28 years old to play the role. Adding to the interest was that he was born in Iran but raised in Canada. His official website is at raminkarimloo.com. The program below reads "Blessings" with his signature.
