City Room bedroom |
Being a former condo and hotel development, some of the rooms at
The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas retain their condominium look and feel. The basic room types available on the Cosmopolitan and Marriott website range from a 460 square feet City View to 1,200 square feet for the Wraparound Suite.
Most of the rooms include a terrace but what is most prized in any category is the view. The Cosmopolitan has poached the view of the Bellagio fountains and charge extra for a room termed as "fountain view."
One aspect of the room that can be requested but up to the discretion of the hotel is which floor a room is located. Normally rooms on higher floors are desired. But because of some unique aspects of the Cosmopolitan some lower rooms can be desired. An example are room located above the Boulevard Pool which be turned into a concert venue in the evening. A room with a terrace above this pool would have an unobstructed view of the event.
The dynamic of hotel room pricing makes it difficult to state standard rates. For Las Vegas, expect to pay more for weekends than for weekdays. Also when the room is booked plays a key as the larger the inventory the cheaper the rate. For example for the week of my visit to Vegas, the cost of rooms doubled from weekdays (Tuesday to Thursdays) to weekends (Fridays to Mondays). The closer you book to a popular holiday weekend also will affect the price.
Looking at the rates for May a month before booking, ranged from about $200 per night for a standard room (which the hotels terms as City View) to $350 per night (for a Wraparound Suites) for weekdays. These rates practically doubled per night for the weekend. Visit
cosmopolitanlasvegas.com for more rate information.
For my stay from Tuesday May 15 to Friday May 18 I booked a Wraparound Suite for $340 per night before taxes. Many will say this is a premium price for a room in Vegas even if it is a suite. My thinking is after visiting New York City and London for so many years and having far less room for more money per night, by comparison the Wraparound Suite at The Cosmopolitan is a bargain.
Bottom line regardless is if you choose the Cosmopolitan or another hotel in Las Vegas, choose your hotel and room in Las Vegas based on the experience you want. Price is always an option but not the only one. If you're thinking about The Cosmopolitan, listed below are the hotel's basic room types with floor plans and details at a glance.
ROOM TAX: The hotel room tax in Las Vegas is 12% (Room at hotels near the Fremont Street Experience are taxed at 13%). Always factor this amount in as most hotels do no quote room rates with taxes. The room can be a substantial expense if you are staying more than a couple of days or if you're booking a premium room. For all other expenses don't forget about the sales tax on purchases that is 8.1%.
