The Venue: Imperial Theatre Employs 'Nice Work If You Can Get It'
The Imperial Theatre, another jewel in the chain of Shubert operated theaters, is a popular home to big-budget musicals. Opened in 1923, and unlike other Broadway theaters, it has retained its name throughout its history.
The venue has an unusual layout in that the main entrance is on 45th Street however the actual auditorium sits along 46th Street. Patrons enter through a long box office lobby and hallway which leads to one of the theater bars and the orchestra seating. With a capacity to seat about 1,443 persons on two levels, the auditorium is wide than it is deep allowing the audience to feel closer to the stage and actors.
The shows I've seen at the Imperial Theatre include: 'Les Miserables' in 1995; 'The Boy From Oz' (2004) starring Hugh Jackman; 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' (2006) starring Jonathan Pryce; 'Billy Elliot: The Musical' (2009) and tonight's performance of 'Nice Work If You Can Get It' starring Matthew Broderick.
Other illustrious productions to premiere at the Imperial: 'Jerome Robbins' Broadway' (1989); Chess (1988) by Tim Rice and ABBA members Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson; 'The Mystery of Edwin Drood' (1985); 'Dreamgirls' (1981); 'Pippin' (1972) starring Ben Vereen; 'Oliver!' (1963); and 'Annie Get Your Gun (1946) starring Ethel Merman.

I've gone to New York with my class and we went to a couple of shows and it was amazing.
