DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel New York City Times Square: The Room

This is one a series of posts covering the Doubletree Suites Times Square.

The Doubletree is the only all-suites hotel in the heart of Times Square. For this very reason, the hotel is popular with families. Rooms with double beds can comfortably sleep six: four in the bedroom and two in the living room on the sofa bed. Thus making it also popular for a small group of friends who don't mind sharing the same room and same bathroom.

I reserved a room with a king bed since I was traveling on my own. The room feels extra spacious and is one the few hotel rooms where I did not have to turn on every light (I mention more about this below) in the room to see in the daytime. The generous flow of natural light fills the room. It should be noted this room is located on the north side of the hotel which is likely the reason for the good natural light throughout the day.

The bed and linens feel fresh and clean. I like the touch of the throw pillow that says "Sweet Dreams". It's always a matter of personal taste, but the bed has the appropriate firmness for me so my back feels well supported during sleep. Too soft or too firm and I'll feel it the next morning.

The narrow armoire holds not only your
clothing but the iron and ironing board.
The king bed is flanked by two nightstands each with a drawer and cabinet. Additional storage is found in a set of three drawers above which sits the flat-screen television. In lieu of a closet is a narrow armoire which also holds the luggage rack, iron and ironing board. The floor space in the armoire is limited if storing shoes or shopping bags. If you need more storage another set of drawers hides behind a cabinet below the television in the living room.

The long bedroom ottoman by the window provides seating but also holds the spare linens and pillows for the sofa bed in the living room.

I always have an issue with the lighting fixtures of low wattage in hotel rooms since there are no ceiling lights. It is no different at the Doubletree. In the evenings only the two nightstand lamps and corner lamp provides light.

With the use of cell phones, most guests dismiss the location of telephones except to call the hotel departments. But each room holds three phones: one in the bedroom, one in the bathroom and one in the living room.

Decor is subdued with walls and linens in beige/white accented by the dark wood of the furniture while the carpet provides a contrast in a dark blue, green and grey pattern.

Two doors: one leads to the living room and the other to the bathroom.
