One obvious attraction of Leicester Square is the movie theaters. This is where Hollywood invades London and the location of most films making their British premiere. On this day workers were setting up the stage for the premiere of "The Other Guys" starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg.
The workers begin from morning up to nearly premiere time setting up such stages pictured below and a marquee devoted to the film. By the end of the event all of this will be removed including the barricades that separate invited audience from adoring fans.
During my ten-day visit to London, two additional premieres would take place in Leicester Square. One of the British film "Made in Dagenham" starring Sally Hawkins ("Happy-Go-Lucky) and on my last night in London, "Eat Pray Love" starring Julia Roberts.
Unfortunately I was not able to observe the event, just the set-up and the growing crowds, as each evening I had already made plans to attend various productions in the West End. But people were already staking out their place outside of the theatre to be sure they had a prime seat to celebrity watch.
However it never hurts to pass through Leicester Square to find which movie premiere you may stumble upon. It was during a visit in October 2001 that I stayed in a hotel in Leicester Square and on a Sunday night stumbled upon the world premiere of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". Two huge chess pieces were the centerpiece of premiere and placed outside of the theatre.
