North Greenwich Station at the Edge of Zone 2

The North Greenwich Underground Station is probably the most modern of all stations on the network. Built in 1999 to accommodate visitors to the Millennium Dome for the year 2000, it now serves visitors to The O2 arena and entertainment complex. The station and The O2 are located on the South Bank of London. Click here to compare this station with the more traditional design of the Holborn Station.

The station, located about seven miles from central London, is also one of the largest on the line capable of handling over 20,000 passengers per hour. Only the Jubilee Line trains stop at the station.

My Oyster card only allowed me to travel within Zones 1 and 2 of the underground network. The North Greenwich Station is on the edge of Zone 2 so to travel beyond this point would entail an extra fare. Due to the lack of any event at The O2, the huge platform was largely empty.
