Maison Bertaux is another hidden delight in London. Located in Soho, a short walk from both the Prince Edward Theatre and the Palace Theatre, this is another highly recommended cafe to enjoy coffee, dessert or a savory pastry.
The cafe occupies two address spaces. Go to the address with the counter and check out the visual menu in the window and point out your choices. Let the staff know if you'd like any coffee or other drinks then find a table anywhere in the cafe. The staff will find you and bring your order. After your meal return to the counter and let the cashier know your order and pay. This casual dining experience could lead to customers skipping their bill but those are probably customers that are unlikely to return.
Although the service was quick and friendly, there may be some wait during the most crowded times at the cafe. My choices for the early afternoon was an americano coffee, a quiche and one of the lightest and creamiest pastries with berries I have ever eaten. I could have eaten another slice but it was time to catch the tube to a matinee performance. The bill for all three items was five pounds. Definitely a return visit would be mandatory on future visits to London.
The cafe is located on 28 Greek St (Tube: Leicester Square). Hours Mon-Sat 8:30am-11pm; Sun 8:30am-7:30pm. Hours can vary during the year. More info at maisonbertaux.com.
